Description
To whom it may concern,
I would like to begin by telling you about Beat4Autism C.I.C .
I am a Director and founder of Beat4Autism.
In 2014 my eldest son was diagnosed with Aspergers, after diagnosis we were basically left to our own devices and not offered much support.
My husband and I found this very difficult and isolating. In 2017 our youngest son was also diagnosed with Autism level 1.
After endless hours of research from the internet we found many different strategies for different behaviours to try.
In 2018 I set up a closed group on Facebook as a way of offering support to others in the same/similar situations.
In April 2019 I changed this to become Beat4Autism (bringing education & awareness together 4 Autism) in a view to offering not only support to the parents and carers of individuals living with Autism, but creating awareness through presentations to education and workplace settings, alongside attending events.
Over the past year we have worked in partnership with the local community cinema to facilitate Autism friendly screenings. We also provide an Autism hub drop in that is held at the local family centre, weekly, where people can attend to have a break and a chat with like minded people. We also offer support and signposting to services available to them, or the child/young person they support. Beat4Autism has teamed up with the local library to hold \'Autism Hour\', This is held within the last hour of opening times once a week where this is a predominantly quieter environment - we have the lights low and the children/young people can read, use the computers or create with lego/craft.
We have also worked with Hunrosa to facilitate a sleep workshop for parents and carers.
Due to Covid-19, we had to postpone a sensory workshop and awareness presentations for the community. With this in mind, and the struggles that many children have experienced throughout this time, we are now planning to have a \'Magical Christmas Grotto\' held in a covid regulated venue that will be Autism and sensory friendly, we will be offering a wonderland walk to a professional Santa, a gift, photo and a truly magical experience with the \'Magic Growing box\' where a plant pot with shredded tinsel and runner bean are placed into the magic growing box , whilst chatting with santa this gets switched out for a real mini Christmas tree.
We have received many donations from the local community of items for the grotto and have been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and CHAT - Community Health Around Torpoint.
This event will be inclusive to the whole community on a first come first served booking system. We intend on holding this event over two days on the weekend of 19th December.
We have acquired a large venue to allow us to create this magical wonderland walk to visit Santa.
Any items you may be able to help with , would be amazing.
TIA
