Description
This is a vintage collector/commemorative plate from the 1960s. It is for the Canadian Mounted Police. Made by Wood & Sons in Burslem, England (says "potters for 200 years" on their logo which is on the back). Alpine White English ironstone (says so on back). Center of front has a mounted Policeman on a brown horse. Design is printed in brown with added colors. There is red on his coat and yellow on his pants and saddle blanket. There are mountains, clouds (with blue), pine forest with dark green, and grass with light green. Fleur de lis type symbol around inside design. Has "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police" below horse. Above man's head is a crest extending onto the rim. Rim is covered in brown designs of leaves/flowers with shields and names of associated places. Nice detail. Plate back is printed in brown. It has "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police" at the top with a crown beneath. There is information about their history. Crest/logo of manufacturer is under that. A decorative sticker on the back says that it isn't for food use.
Plate is 10 inches in diameter. Weighs 1 1/2 pounds. Good condition - no chips or cracks. Glaze has some crazing from age. Some marks in glaze on the back from the manufacturing process. Great for anyone who like RCMP memorabilia or unique collector plates.
