Description
Due to increased pupil intake for 2016/17Sheiling School, Thornbury have openings for committed and enthusiastic Assistant Teachers (Classroom based).
Salary £18,000 to £19,185 per annum
37.5 hours a week, 8:30am-5pm, Mon- Fri.
11 weeks paid holiday which includes Bank Holidays,
41 weeks worked
Relevant degree and/or teaching qualifications.
Mainstream and Waldorf qualifications both considered.
Experience of working with pupils with challenging behaviour is essential.
ROLE SUMMARY:
To work closely with the Class Teacher to provide effective teaching and be responsible for creating a therapeutic, safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment that enables a pupil to succeed in their learning.
To develop and maintain a suitable programme with flexibility and creativity in delivering teaching.
To provide support and guidance to children, young people and those engaged with them, by removing barriers to learning in order to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning, raise aspirations and achieve their potential.
To take on a learning mentor role if individual needs of pupils with BESD, demand avoidance and challenging behaviour who struggle to take part in conventional classroom learning with their peer group are identified.
To supervise and support Learning Support Assistants as required

The Sheiling School in Thornbury, South Glos is a residential Camphill (Rudolf Steiner) School for children with learning difficulties aged 6 to 19 and is part of Camphill Communities Thornbury. Our beautiful grounds on the edge of the town encompass several residential houses for children and adults, a school building, indoor and outdoor craft workshops and a swimming pool. Adjacent is our farm, which provides organic produce for the community.
